Sharing borders with the My Luong River, Con Phuoc Island is a great tourist destination located in Cho Moi district, An Giang Province, Vietnam, which is famous for its over 100-year-old Catholic Church and peaceful handicraft villages.
If want to get a glimpse of the Mekong River life at a typical countryside, let’s cruise to Con Phuoc Island and go ashore to explore its rural scenery by local tuk-tuk. The island is the homeland of several villages making handicrafts such as basket production and wooden furniture. You can either see the whole process of making the handmade items or enjoy a hands-on experience with the help of local artisans.
The main attraction on the island is apparently the Con Phuoc Catholic Church. According to the ancients, this floating dune island existed before 1860, then a number of people from Dong Thap Province, including many Catholics, came here to settle down. The church was erected for the first time with a coconut-leaf thatched roof in 1872, then it was made of bricks and tiles in 1992. The Con Phuoc cathedral today is the last version inaugurated in 2011 that becomes often busy with visit of local sheep and travelers.
